About our Organization
The Shining Stars is a not-for-profit organization benefiting children of the Illinois Valley in Southern Oregon. The Shining Stars is extremely dedicated to the future of the children. We believe that if you set your sights on the stars you can accomplish anything. With this in mind, we intend to bring the children in our valley more opportunities for art, music, dance, and recreation. Our vision grew into Shining Stars Festival, an annual event offering music, workshops, a wonderful kid village, and clean environmental practices with local craft and food vendors. This one event held in June benefits the local economy with the influx of visitors for that weekend, and brings much-needed cultural enrichment to our valley. The proceeds from the festival directly benefit the youth in our community. The Shining Stars is structured with a volunteer board of directors and a strong volunteer base comprised of women, men and youth.

Our Accomplishments
In the first years of operations we have been successful in holding five annual Shining Stars Events, which raised money for programs in our community focused on the youth.  We  also collaborate with the public school system in our community: Elementary, Middle, and High School youth have been the spotlight of Shining Stars projects such as African Drum and Dance, Celebrate the Children day, Christmas Gifts for H.S. youth, Smart 'n' Active Kids after-school group, as well as sponsoring an "open-house" art day with the Boys & Girls Club.

Our Goals
In the future we plan to increase art and music opportunities and safe recreation areas for children throughout the Illinois Valley.  The I.V. Pool and the I.V. Sk8 Park are some existing programs we support.  We also sponsor kids and/or offer scholarship opportunities to local youth for extra-curricular activities they might not otherwise financially be able to participate in.  We look forward to instilling new, interactive art activities available to kids throughout the community.
